Most remarkably, you gave me the grace to not reply with the correction, and for that, I’m grateful. In fact, even better—the only replies I received were from those who wanted to share their permission slip with me.
Y’all are A-MAZ-ING!

This got me thinking about grace in our learning communities.

More specifically, grace when it comes to mistakes. As educators, we are in the business of continuous improvement so it feels natural to show those around us (kids and adults) their opportunities for growth. However, when does this cause more harm than good?

Here are some of the ways that I’m highlighting the positives and promoting growth:

• Teach Everyone the Importance: 

  Don’t keep the power of praise and positive feedback a secret— model it and gently hold each other accountable (kids and adults). 

• Specific and Authentic Feedback: 

  Use rubrics, checklists, and sentence stems so everyone can provide timely, high-quality feedback, including learner-to-learner.

• Workshop Model (Don’t Correct Everything): 

  (I know—yikes!) Celebrate successes and give real-time feedback. Provide targeted, actionable feedback focused on the current learning goal(s).

• Continuously Improve Relationships: 

  Use praise to strengthen relationships, boost morale, and increase motivation. Don't wait!

Of course, these are just some examples of things that work for me. There are other ways. What do you think? How are you sharing the positives and promoting growth?
